Information for Travellers Going To The United States


1. Are any World Duty Free stores located in the YVR US Terminal?

There are two World Duty Free stores located in the U.S. Terminal:

The Shop
Located right after US Customs and Border Protection
Open 4:30 am – 8:00 pm

US Terminal, located near Gate 85
Open 5:00 am – 6:30 pm

2. What are the allowances when travelling to the US?

The following goods may be imported into USA by visitors over 21 years of age without incurring customs duty:

  • 200 cigarettes or 100 cigars
  • 1L of an alcoholic beverage
  • For returning residents who have been out of the country for at least 48 hours: goods up to the value of US $800 (this limit is applicable once every 30 days, and is reduced to USD 200 for travellers who have already used the allowance, or have been out of the USA for less than 48 hours)
  • For non-residents visiting the USA for at least 72 hours: goods up to a value of USD 100.

If you are a resident of the United States, the following applies:

  • Exemption of USD 200 worth of dutiable items:
    • For residents that travelled abroad more than once in a 30-day period or who have been out of the country for at least 48 hours. If the worth of the items brought in exceeds the above USD 200 then the whole amount is dutiable. You may include with the $200 exemption your choice of the following:
      • 50 cigarettes and
      • 10 cigars and
      • 150 ml (5 fl. oz.) of alcoholic beverages or
      • 150 ml (5 fl. oz.) of perfume containing alcohol.
  • Exemption of USD 800 worth of dutiable items:
    • For residents who have been out of the country at least 48 hours and their duty-free exemption was not used in the preceding 30 days. The duty-free allowances may include the following maximum quantities of:
      • Tobacco products : 200 cigarettes and 100 cigars
      • Persons of 21 years or older 1L of alcohol
      • other goods for personal use
      • USD 100 worth of dutiable items as a gift.

3. How can I find out if the products I want are in stock?

4. What if I change my mind after I’ve left the airport, or my purchase is faulty?
